Enshrouded 1.0 is bringing more than expected

After spending more than two years in Early Access and reaching a significant popularity peak, Enshrouded is finally preparing to graduate. Keen Games has confirmed that version 1.0 will launch on October 15, 2026, bringing the survival RPG to Steam and PlayStation 5. And judging by the developer's latest video, this isn't going to be a case of slapping a “1.0” sticker onto the Early Access version and calling it a day. 

Keen Games has offered a new look at some of the changes coming with the full release, while teasing that even more information will be revealed before launch. In other words, Embervale is getting one final round of renovations before the developers hand over the keys.

What's on the roadmap?

One of the biggest targets for improvement is the Fell Dragon Youngling, which is the current final boss in Enshrouded. The encounter is being substantially reworked, with a deeper arena designed to make getting knocked into the abyss less of a recurring hobby. The dragon will also receive a new ground phase, giving melee characters more opportunities to actually hit the thing instead of waiting around for the perfect opening. The boss fight should also become less of a war of attrition. Players will need fewer attacks to stun the dragon, while its health is being reduced and its stun duration increased. Its hitbox is being refined, and its rear weak spot will be usable with every weapon type. Even better, melee players will be able to parry its rock projectiles back at it. Nothing says “final boss” quite like returning its own ammunition with a strongly worded rebuttal.

Keen Games is also experimenting with a much friendlier approach to dying during boss fights. Rather than having enemies immediately recover all their health after you bite the dust, version 1.0 will allow them to regenerate gradually. That means your heroic sacrifice might actually accomplish something instead of simply giving the boss a free health bar refill.

Traversal is getting some attention, too. Players will be able to choose between the original instant Updraft and the newer charge-based version through the settings. It's a small change, but a welcome one for anyone who has developed surprisingly strong opinions about how quickly they should be launched into the air.

Your Flameborn is also getting a visual makeover. Enshrouded 1.0 introduces new character proportions designed to make its heroes look more traditionally heroic. Existing characters won't be left behind, either, as players will be able to visit Elio Ricci and update their appearance.

Meanwhile, Keen Games is trying to make Embervale feel a little less like a place where everyone occasionally forgets how doors work. NPCs and pets are receiving fixes aimed at preventing them from becoming trapped around player-built settlements. Also, fishing is getting a more interesting overhaul as well. Bait will now be more closely connected to the biome where its resources are gathered, while improved bait can guarantee fish corresponding to its tier. Fishing spots will also have different characteristics, with some offering better chances of finding treasure and others being more attractive to fish.

All this is only the beginning. Keen Games has promised to reveal more details about Enshrouded 1.0 in the run-up to launch, suggesting that there are still plenty of surprises to be announced. After years of Early Access updates, the game's transition to version 1.0 is starting to look less like the end of development and more like the game's biggest renovation yet.
