Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact now has a free PS5 demo

Anime and fighting game fans can now enjoy the free demo of Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact, the new fighting title inspired by Yoshihiro Togashi's popular manga, on PlayStation 5. After its initial release on PC via Steam at the end of May, the demo now lands on Sony's next-gen console, giving users a chance to try out the gameplay before the official release.

In this trial version, players will be able to select from six iconic characters from the series: Gon, Killua, Kurapika, Leorio, Hisoka and President Netero. The demo includes three game modes: Battle, Training and an introductory segment of the Story mode that acts as a tutorial. It should be noted that the demo does not allow online play or save players' progress for the final game, so the entire experience is contained within this free sample.

Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact adopts a 2.5D aesthetic with team-based combat in the classic style of titles like Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which is no coincidence, as development is being handled by studio Eighting, known for their expertise in such games. The gameplay features 3-on-3 battles, with a focus on quick combos, Nen-based special abilities and a pace that's accessible to newcomers and veterans alike.

While the demo has received mixed reviews, many players praise the smooth combat, character design and faithfulness to the anime universe. However, it has also been noted that the visuals are not very impressive and some users question whether the final product will justify its price tag, especially if it does not incorporate graphical or technical improvements.

The full version of the game will arrive on 17 July 2025 and will be available on PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC. It will include a starting roster of 16 fighters, plus additional content via season passes. Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact will feature multiple game modes, including story, local versus, online qualifiers and more.
