Mouthwashing Brings Its Psychological Horror to Consoles

Mouthwashing Finally Arrives on Consoles This October
Release date

After building a strong following on PC, Mouthwashing is preparing to bring its disturbing psychological horror experience to console players. Developed by Wrong Organ and published by Critical Reflex, the indie horror game will launch on PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S on October 29, 2026. The release also expands its availability through the Microsoft Store, giving more players the opportunity to experience one of the most unsettling indie horror games of recent years.

Originally released on Steam on September 26, 2024, Mouthwashing quickly attracted attention for its unusual presentation, unsettling atmosphere, and disturbing narrative. Its upcoming console debut arrives just ahead of Halloween, making it a timely choice for players looking for a darker gaming experience. If you're a fan of SOMA or Detention, Mouthwashing offers a similarly unsettling psychological horror experience, exploring themes of guilt, human identity, and existential dread through a disturbing story set aboard an isolated spaceship.

A Psychological Horror Story Set in Space

The story follows the five-member crew of the Tulpar, a cargo spaceship left stranded after a catastrophic crash. Fans drawn to the Tulpar crew's desperate situation may also enjoy Still Wakes the Deep and Iron Lung, which trap workers on a remote oil rig as a mysterious threat turns a disaster into a fight for survival. With their chances of rescue fading, the surviving crew members must confront dwindling supplies, mounting psychological pressure, and increasingly fractured relationships. Captain Curly survives the disaster but suffers devastating injuries, leaving the remaining crew to deal with the consequences of the accident.

Rather than focusing on conventional combat, Mouthwashing builds tension through environmental storytelling, disturbing imagery, and the crew's deteriorating mental states. Its retro-inspired, low-poly visuals reinforce the oppressive atmosphere, while its narrative explores themes of guilt, responsibility, and human cruelty.  Like Paratopic, Mouthwashing uses retro-inspired visuals, surreal imagery, and psychological tension to create an unsettling atmosphere, gradually blurring the line between reality and nightmare as the story unfolds.

A New Opportunity for Console Horror Fans

The console launch marks an important step for Mouthwashing, bringing its distinctive approach to horror to a broader audience. Players on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch will be able to experience its unsettling journey without needing a gaming PC. The game will also join Xbox Game Pass on launch day, providing subscribers with another horror title to explore during the Halloween season.

For fans of narrative-driven horror, Mouthwashing offers an experience that prioritizes psychological discomfort and storytelling over traditional action. Its October 29 release gives console players the perfect opportunity to discover what made this indie title stand out. Check out our comparison website for the best deals on Mouthwashing.
