Nvidia’s RTX 5060 is set to go on sale starting May 19th

Nvidia has officially announced that its RTX 5060 8GB graphics card will be released on May 19th. At launch, the GPU will be sold as a standalone option for both desktops and laptops.

It’s important to note that, in contrast to the RTX 5060 Ti, the RTX 5060 will solely feature an 8GB model. A 16GB version will not be offered. However, due to the inclusion of GDDR7 memory and a greater number of CUDA cores, Nvidia’s RTX 5060 is expected to outperform its predecessor significantly. The earlier Nvidia’s RTX 4060 had 3072 CUDA cores, while the new RTX 5060 boasts 3,840. This reflects a 25% increase in the number of CUDA cores.

The timing of this launch is somewhat peculiar, as it nearly aligns with Computex 2025. Many of the leading PC and hardware reviewers will be heading to Taiwan for the event, which may complicate the review process for new products.

With 3,840 CUDA cores, the RTX 5060 has around 800 fewer cores than the 5060 Ti released by Nvidia last month and is the most basic offering within the RTX 50-series. However, similar to the Ti model, the 5060 is equipped with GDDR7 memory, supports DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, and includes the latest ray tracing and tensor cores. The company has announced that more games will receive updates to support DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation prior to the 5060’s launch, including MechWarrior 5: Clans on May 7th and New World: Aeternum on May 13th.

Whether or not the card is a worthwhile purchase remains to be seen. The RTX 5060 is restricted to just 8GB of VRAM, and it’s likely that it will retail for more than the proposed $299 price point. Retailers began offering GPUs, including other RTX 50-series models, at inflated prices even before the implementation of President Trump’s tariffs.

The RTX 5060 represents a solid entry-level choice for gamers who are new to RTX, providing satisfactory performance and modern features at a competitive price. However, for those looking to maximize settings to ultra, ensure their system is future-proof, and fully take advantage of the latest gaming capabilities—there is simply no substitute for the RTX 5080.
