Stalker 2 Update 2.1 'The Zone Lookout': What's New
Updates & Patches

GSC Game World keeps improving S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl a long time after the 1.0 version of the game was released. The studio has released Update 2.1 "The Zone Lookout". It's the first major update since the "Archmajor" 2.0, and it adds adjustable A-Life visualisation distance, long-distance combat improvements, a new fast travel system and a broad set of bug fixes. The update went live on October 25, 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What's new in Stalker 2 Update 2.1?

Update 2.1 "The Zone Lookout" revolves around three major pillars:

  • A-Life NPC visualisation distance presets — see NPCs from much further away
  • Long-distance gunfight improvements — distant fights are audible, ballistics adjusted
  • Fast travel with squad leaders — paid rides from friendly or neutral stalkers

On top of that,  binoculars have been updated, a series of improvements has been made to anomalies, and a broad set of bug fixes based on community feedback contribute to making gameplay better.

A-Life NPC visualisation distance

For the first time, you can manually increase how far away A-Life NPCs are visible. The new presets can be found under Settings → Game → Visualisation options, and they're available regardless of platform or PC specs. GSC Game World recommends sticking with the default preset — it's the safest bet for a stable run through the Zone. Pushing it higher can affect performance and stability. The Dynamic preset scales the range automatically to what your PC or console can handle.

One important note from the studio: A-Life NPCs and quest/scripted NPCs are different entities, and the visualisation range is increased mainly for A-Life NPCs to keep the game stable. The number of available presets may also differ depending on your platform.

Long-distance gunfights and ballistics

The update also brings improvements and balance tweaks that make long-distance gunfights feel natural. Depending on your preset, you'll now hear fights break out much farther away, and weapon ballistics have been adjusted accordingly.

Fast travel with squad leaders

As you cross the Zone, you should keep an eye out for friendly or neutral stalkers: squad leaders are now marked on your compass. Talk to them and they can guide you to nearby destinations, but only to places along their travel route and only already-explored locations. You will need to pay good cash for the service; nobody will carry your bag (so don't be overloaded), and don't expect a guy from Zalissya to take you all the way to Prypiat.

Binoculars, anomalies and bug fixes

Binocular functionality has been updated to support the new streaming distances. Anomalies received improvements too, including streaming distance behaviour, dead body interactions, and visual improvements for the CNPP arch-anomaly. GSC Game World has specified that this update was planned from feedback gathered on social media, forums and reviews, and it ships a broad set of bug fixes on top of the new content. If you play with mods, the studio warns they may not withstand the update. Remember to disable them if you run into performance or stability issues. The official Update 2.1 showcase can provide additional details.
