The Sims 4 surpasses 70 million players

Those familiar with the most popular life simulation experience may not be surprised when hearing that The Sims 4 has reached a new milestone. It's been nine years since the game was released and it's now the most played game in the franchise, which is something quite significant considering that The Sims is the game that made the genre what it is nowadays. Over 70 million players have created a character in the world of The Sims 4.

Better numbers than ever

The reason behind such a success is the monetization change of the base game, which players can download and play for free since October 2022. The popularity of the game has increased exponentially since then, along with the sales of additional content in the form of several types of DLC. If you are familiar with The Sims 4, you already know that there are countless ways of expanding the world of the game with a variety of DLC that range from big expansions to small stuff packs that revolve around a specific theme. The latest one, The Sims 4 Growing Together rapidly became a best-seller after its release last month, surpassing any other DLC released to date.

Such an increase demonstrates that Maxis was on the right track when it made The Sims 4 free-to-play, and it serves to encourage the developer to continue creating new expansions for the game. Although there are players that have been wondering about the possible development of a new installment in the franchise for a while, it seems that The Sims 4 is stronger than ever, and it will probably continue to be the flagship of the studio for a long while.
