The Sinking City 2 Locks In Its Official Launch Date

The Sinking City 2 announces its official launch date

The Sinking City 2 just witnessed some major updates by Frogwares. The game is at the finish line, and pre-orders are officially live right now! Let's walk through some of the features that brand new sequel to The Sinking City will offer.

A completely shift in gameplay and story

The game’s official release date is locked in for August 18, 2026. It will be launching on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you want to test it out ahead of time, there is currently a playable demo available on Steam.

Unlike the first game, which leaned heavily into detective work, the sequel is shifting gears to become a full-on, resource-lean survival horror game with a focus on combat, tight inventory management, and exploration.

You will play as Calvin Rafferty, an occultist and adventurer navigating a semi-open-world version of Arkham in the 1920s. The game is set in a city that is completely drowned by a supernatural flood. As Calving, you will try to save your girlfriend, whose soul was trapped in the Dreamlands following a ritual gone wrong.

The game still keeps the classic investigation mechanics from the first title, but they are entirely optional. Solving puzzles and finding clues will yield lore, open hidden routes, and unlock weapon upgrades rather than advancing main story progression.

Frogwares revealed that they made a late-stage decision to upgrade the entire project to Unreal Engine 5.8 to ensure better optimization and performance gains at launch. This will significantly improve player experience compared to the first part of the game.

With the new approach to the gameplay, the story, and the upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.8, the game promises to deliver an enhanced game experience. I’m all about motorcycles, retro gaming, and the golden handheld era of the PSP and PS Vita. I love the thrill of the ride just as much as the nostalgia of classic games. I believe games can bring people together, spark creativity, and make the world a little brighter—one adventure at a time.

After Oakmont and its unsettling inhabitants, diving into Arkham (and hopefully Miskatonic University) promises many hours of intense gameplay. While I loved the investigation system of the first game, emphasizing exploration and resource management could be really enjoyable (and please, I hope they've abandoned the uninteresting underwater sections!). I can't wait to try and survive in this Lovecraftian universe where every square inch is steeped in madness and despair.

The August release date seems ideal for a game like this. It doesn't compete with too many big releases and can easily carve out a comfortable niche for itself.

I think the demo is important because these games rely heavily on sensory feedback. If the controls, lighting, and sound work well, they're already halfway there.

I'm not the biggest horror fan, but the Lovecraftian universe always has a certain charm. Between the flooded streets, the strange creatures, and the exploration, the game has a real identity. This presentation gives a much better impression than the first images revealed.

Pretty curious about how well it will run with Unreal Engine 5.8. I believe this will be the first "big" game to release that uses it, and I really hope the performance gains are good enough to make more devs upgrade their other Unreal 5 games.

The Sinking City 2 looks like one of those games that grabs you with its atmosphere. A flooded Arkham already sounds like the perfect setting for Lovecraft.

Finally, a release date has been set. I'm glad because these kinds of games are more enjoyable when you know the wait is over and it's not up in the air.

The first game had an excellent atmosphere despite a few technical flaws. This sequel seems more ambitious, with revamped combat and more polished presentation. I hope the optimization is there, because the game world deserves a smooth experience from beginning to end.

The Sinking City 2 seems to fully embrace the shift towards Lovecraftian survival horror with a much more tense atmosphere and real resource management in the flooded streets of Arkham.

The Sinking City 2 finally securing its launch date is great news. The first game nailed atmosphere and investigative tension, and this sequel looks like it’s pushing those strengths even further. If the team has tightened the combat and doubled down on the eerie worldbuilding, it could easily become one of the standout horror releases of the year.
