Thief 3: Deadly Shadows feature an entirely new game engine, providing new graphics and even gameplay. Players can now switch between first-person and third-person to suit their preferences.

This time around, TDS lets you explore the streets of the City. You can steal from homes or mug people on the streets between missions and sell your acquisitions to fences, just like a real Victorian-era criminal. As you complete missions, more of the City becomes open to exploring.

The shadows are still your friend, and staying quiet and hidden will ensure that Garrett stays alive longer. Thankfully, he also has new skills to complement his arsenal. Garrett can now flatten himself against the wall to avoid passing guards. Lockpicking is now its own mini-game, requiring skill and knowledge of the locks themselves. Climbing gloves will let you clamber up sheer walls to reach hidden areas or get away from guards. 

The City is filled with many places to explore: Gothic mansions, clocktowers, abandoned districts, forbidden libraries, and even haunted sanitariums. Beware--the City is still full of dangers, from the mundane threats of guards and thugs to the deadly magics of the Hammerite sect and the Pagans. And there’s something hunting the streets now, something black and sinister and hungry. You'd better discover its true nature before it finds you out.

With enemies at every turn, Garrett only has his own skills to rely on for the coming conflict. Will you survive the deadly shadows?
