The first moments of this game immerse the player into a post-apocalyptic atmosphere.
In front of his camcorder, Adam, the survivor of a disaster called “The Event”, which included earthquakes that destroyed lots of cities and areas, tells his story. The hero returns to Haventon, his hometown. In order to rescue his wife July and his daughter Mary, Adam will have to face a transformed but hostile world where survival is the sole goal in life. I Am Alive combines action phases where you need to deal with hostile enemies and platform phases. Action phases are orchestrated confrontations with aggressive enemies. Ammunition is so precious that you will need to ration it out and trick or intimidate your opponents. Threaten them out with an empty weapon, take out their leader first... everything is allowed in this world where nothing but survival counts.
You will also meet desperate survivors who might ask you for help. Will you help them at the expense of the few resources you own?
During platform phases, Adam will have to clear the path by climbing buildings. The goal here is not to enjoy landscapes, but to escape from the toxic dust that has invaded the city. The dust clouds will drop his stamina bar until fatal poisoning. Climbing like an Assassin’s Creed hero will not be enough since each action will decrease his stamina.
Therefore it will be essential to find a good balance between resources spent and efforts to survive.
