What secrets lie in your old childhood home? You’re about to find out. In the first-person exploration game Gone Home, you take on the role of Katie Greenbriar, a young woman coming back to her family house in rural Oregon only to find the place completely deserted, though with signs of habitation. Moving through the large mansion, you find journals and scraps of information scattered about, written by your family members: your dad Terry, a failed writer; your mom Janice, a recently promoted wildlife conservationist; and your younger sister Samantha, a college student looking for her place in life. It becomes clear that each family member is hiding as many secrets as the house itself. It falls to you to piece together exactly what happened and what it means for your entire family.

Driven by a thoughtful and emotional story, Gone Home is meant to keep you thinking long after you finish the last dialogue.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

While you can examine many objects, you are limited to interacting with only a select few that are relevant to the story.
Is there a traditional inventory system to manage items I find?
No, there is no inventory. Important items are automatically 'picked up' or become part of the environment when interacted with.

Absolutely not. Gone Home is a non-violent exploration game focused solely on narrative discovery.
Are there puzzles to solve beyond finding keys and combinations?

How linear is the experience in terms of how I discover the story's events?
The game allows for a degree of non-linearity in how you uncover the story, encouraging exploration and discovery at your own pace.
Can I revisit areas I've already explored?
Yes, you can freely move between all the areas of the house throughout the game.
Are there any consequences for my choices or actions within the game?

Is there a time limit or a scoring system?
No. The game is designed to be experienced at your own pace, without any time constraints or scoring.
Does the game offer hints or guidance if I get stuck?
The game provides subtle environmental clues. It's up to you to carefully observe your surroundings and draw your own conclusions.
How much of the story is told through environmental details versus direct dialogue?
The narrative is primarily conveyed through environmental storytelling, with a heavy emphasis on discovering clues and reading notes to understand the characters and events.

I had heard about this game for a while and thanks to a contest I won it a few months ago. The story takes place at night in a mansion where we will have to explore all the nooks and crannies in order to advance in the story which is surprising, confusing even if we quickly see the global scenario taking shape. Take this game only if you like stories. The game is short at barely an hour, but it can be worth it.
