Mafia: Definitive Edition has an official launch date

Although it was probably meant to be announced this week, the upcoming release of Mafia: Definitive Edition was leaked a few days ago and it caught players by surprise. The reveal of Mafia: Trilogy left very clear that there was a new version of the first title in the Mafia series on the way, but nobody knew if it was going to be just a remaster of the original game from 2002 or something completely different. 

Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition are remastered versions of the original games that come with all the DLC and bonus content packs released to the date for both games. Those include The Betrayal of Jimmy, Jimmy's Vendetta, and Joe's Adventures for Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, and Sign of times for Mafia III: Definive Editions. Those are available already and if you previously owned Mafia II or Mafia III on PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Steam, your games have been upgraded to the Definitive Edition versions for free.

When it comes to Mafia: Definitive Edition, 2K Games and Hangar 13 have decided to go for a complete overhaul of the original game. It now supports graphics in 4K HD and includes a number of new features like new vehicle types, expanded narrative, and collectibles. According to Hangar 13 President and CCO Haden Blackman:

"Nearly 20 years after the Mafia series started, we now have an amazing opportunity to introduce this beloved game to a new generation of players, and give longtime fans a chance to relive Tommy's story with a stellar modern presentation and new story elements and gameplay features."

If you are wondering when you will be able to play Mafia: Definitive Edition, it will be available on August 28 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. You can obtain it as part of Mafia: Trilogy or buy it separately.
