Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO reveals new game modes, split screen confirmed

As the release date for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO  approaches, this game is set to become a dream come true for many Dragon Ball fans, continuing the legacy established by the Budokai Tenkaichi series. The release date announcement at Summer Fest has just concluded, revealing new features in the story mode of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO , but leaving fans with many questions.

To address these questions, Bandai Namco and Spike Chunsoft recently released a new gameplay video for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, introducing the game’s modes, which include three main modes:

  • Episode Battle
  • Custom Battle
  • Local Multiplayer Battling

In Episode Battle, you will experience the perspectives of eight different characters, with Goku and Vegeta among them. In each episode, players will go through an introductory cutscene and then head straight into battle. The number of episodes and battles will depend on the character chosen, with Goku having the most episodes, spanning from Raditz's appearance to the Tournament of Power. In certain episodes, depending on the player's choices, the game's story might diverge from the original anime.

Next is Custom Battle, where players will fight battles in their own custom scenarios. In Custom Battle, there will be Bonus Battles, a mode where players can engage in battles prepared by the developers, each with different win conditions and some featuring cutscenes during the fight, allowing for a unique experience compared to regular battles. Players can freely choose their characters and customize the pre- and post-battle cutscenes in Edit Mode. These custom scenarios can then be shared online for other players to experience.

Lastly, there is Local Multiplayer Battling, the much-anticipated split-screen mode. However, in this mode, players can only choose the 'Hyperbolic Time Chamber' arena. According to Jun Furutani, "We wanted to show effects like the wind blasting around and the weather changing, just by charging your Ki, and rocks and buildings being dynamically destroyed by the force of battle, and take advantage of the power of the latest generation of consoles." He added, "With that in mind, it was difficult to implement local split-screen multiplayer while retaining those core elements, so we developed this game with online multiplayer and an offline single-player mode in mind." Adding this mode at the last minute, this was the best they could do.

Although the split-screen mode isn't the same as in Budokai Tenkaichi 3, this decision was made by the developers to maintain a dazzling and exciting experience. Despite this, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO seems to be in a good position with many exciting features to keep players engaged, receiving positive feedback from those who got to experience the demo version of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is set to release on October 11th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. If you are interested in this game, use our price comparison tool to find the best prices for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO.
