Activision has officially announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will take center stage at this year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live. Scheduled for August 19, the event will kick off at 8:00 PM CEST and will feature a full showcase of the upcoming title. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the show is one of the most anticipated gaming broadcasts of the year, and Black Ops 7 will headline the presentation with new details, trailers, and potentially a first look at gameplay.
The next installment in the long-running Black Ops subseries is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, continuing the darker and more narrative-driven tone fans have come to expect. Set in the year 2035, the story revolves around David Mason, son of original Black Ops protagonist Alex Mason, as he faces a mysterious enemy who uses fear as a weapon. This new chapter will feature a full single-player campaign, competitive multiplayer, and a co-op Zombies mode, ensuring the full Call of Duty package returns once again.
Fans can expect a world premiere trailer during the broadcast, possibly showing off campaign footage as well as a glimpse of multiplayer mechanics. With previous Black Ops games known for their experimental gameplay, many are eager to see how this iteration evolves the formula. The game is said to use the "omnimovement" system introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, but will stay grounded without returning to jetpacks or futuristic traversal mechanics.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to launch on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via both Battle.net and Steam. Notably, it will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass, both on console and PC, which is a move that is expected to significantly expand its reach, especially following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
With Call of Duty often serving as one of Gamescom's most talked-about reveals, expectations are high. As the August 19 event draws closer, fans of the series should prepare for a deeper look at what could be one of the most ambitious entries in the franchise yet.
