Meet Yagyu Munenori in the newest Fate/Samurai Remnant DLC

Fate/Samurai Remnant is a action role-playing video game co-developed by Omega Force and Kou Shibusawa in cooperation with Aniplex and Type-Moon, and published by Koei Tecmo. It is an entry in the popular Fate series, and was released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Windows in 2023.

Fate/Samurai Remnant lets players play as Miyamoto Iori, a samurai during Japan's Edo period. Iori was adopted by the legendary ronin Miyamoto Musashi. The game reimagines Miyamoto Iori as a peacekeeping ronin chosen to participate in the Waxing Moon Ritual, a spin-off of the Holy Grail War. Summoning Yamato Takeru, a Saber-class servant, they form an alliance with Takao Dayu and her Berserker-class servant, Iori's late master Miyamoto Musashi, in exchange for information on other Masters and servants.

Fate/Samurai Remnant's combat feature hack and slash style with some similarities to musou gameplay, but it falls under the Action RPG genre with dodging and looking for openings as an important element. It features a wide array of stances, which the player character can switch between on the fly. The game is open-world and allows for exploration of recreated districts of Edo, such as Yoshiwara, Kanda and Akasaka.

Koei Tecmo, Omega Force, and Type-Moon have announced the second DLC for their action-adventure Fate/Samurai Remnant, titled Record’s Fragment: Yagyu Sword Chronicles, which was released on April 18, 2024:

Investigating the night killings that bring commotion to Edo, Miyamoto Iori comes face to face with Yagyu Munenori, a Rogue Saber.

It seems like the story of this DLC will revolve around Yagyu Munenori, a Japanese daimyo, swordsman, and martial arts writer, founder of the Edo branch of Yagyu Shinkage-ruu as stated in the Steam description:

The magic power of the Ritual swirling around Edo attracts many oddities.
Tsujigiri of tremendous skill. A mysterious deadly blade.

Miyamoto Iori and Saber, who are investigating the situation at the behest of Sukenoshin, are confronted by a swordsman of a much higher skill. A Servant.
Is this the rumored Tsujigiri?
Just as they wonder, the Servant suddenly lowers his sword to introduce himself.

“...I am Yagyu Munenori.
A figment of human history, and now a swordsman with no master.”

A newly arrived Rogue Saber, a master of swordsmanship, whose True Name is Yagyu Tajima-no-Kami Munenori.
What is his purpose here? And what is his connection to Tsujigiri?
Accompanied by a new Servant, Iori and Saber traverse the blood-soaked streets of Edo.
