The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is coming in November

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake gets a November release date
Release date

The wait is finally over. Nintendo has officially revealed when fans will be able to relive to one of Hyrule's most legendary adventures, confirming that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. After months of anticipation and only brief glimpses of the project, Nintendo has now opened the floodgates with a new trailer packed with gameplay and fresh details.

For Zelda fans, this isn't simply another trip down memory lane. Nintendo is taking its beloved Nintendo 64 classic and giving it a substantial modern makeover, with the latest footage offering the clearest look yet at what players can expect when Link's journey returns later this year.

A Classic Adventure, Rebuilt for a New Generation

The original Ocarina of Time remains one of the most influential games ever created, so remaking it is hardly a small task. Nintendo appears determined to respect that legacy while making the experience feel considerably more at home on modern hardware. The remake is nothing like the Ocarina of Time 3D version released in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS. It introduces dramatically upgraded visuals, redesigned environments and characters, expanded dialogue, voiced scenes and a refreshed symphonic soundtrack. Familiar locations have been transformed with far greater detail, giving Hyrule a new sense of scale without stripping away the personality that made the original so memorable.

And Link himself isn't quite the same hero players remember from 1998. The new gameplay footage shows him jumping, swimming, diving, and dashing, while improved camera controls give players greater freedom during exploration and combat. These additions could make the new The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time feel significantly more fluid without turning it into an entirely different Zelda game.

Hyrule Has More Secrets to Uncover

Nintendo is also adding systems designed to make the adventure easier to navigate. One of the most intriguing additions is the "Threads of Time" feature, which appears to provide additional guidance as players progress through Hyrule. It allows players to check their current point at the story while also offering information about their next target.

That could be particularly useful for newcomers who aren't familiar with the game's sometimes cryptic progression. At the same time, it seems Nintendo is attempting to avoid simply placing giant arrows over every objective. The idea is to provide direction while allowing players to actually discover the world for themselves.

The gameplay footage also showcases revamped combat and exploration mechanics, along with faster ways to manage Link's equipment. Modern conveniences are clearly becoming a major part of this remake, potentially removing some of the friction that came with playing the original adventure while leaving its core structure intact.

Yes, You Can Actually Hum the Ocarina

Perhaps the most unexpected addition of them all involves the game's most famous instrument. The ocarina remains an essential part of Link's adventure, but Switch 2 players will have a rather unusual alternative for playing its melodies. Nintendo has revealed that the console's microphone can be used to hum the game's songs, meaning players can quite literally sing their way through some of Hyrule's musical puzzles. The game will also respond to instruments!

Of course, traditional button controls remain available for those who would rather not perform their own rendition of Zelda's greatest hits. Motion controls are also supported, giving players another way to aim weapons such as Link's bow and slingshot. It is exactly the sort of feature that could have sounded ridiculous on the Nintendo 64 but suddenly makes perfect sense on modern hardware.

A Familiar Hyrule With a Completely New Face

The latest footage gives fans plenty of opportunities to compare the remake with the original. Iconic characters and locations are instantly recognisable, yet practically everything has been rebuilt with modern levels of detail. The Great Deku Tree, in particular, looks almost unrecognisable compared with its original Nintendo 64 appearance. Environments feel richer, character animations are more expressive and the world has a visual depth that simply wasn't possible in 1998.

Nintendo has also unveiled new screenshots, artwork and the game's box art, giving fans an even better idea of the visual identity behind the remake. Nintendo is clearly treating The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as a full-scale reinterpretation, while keeping the original adventure at the heart of the experience.

November 5 Is the Big Day

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake launches on November 5, 2026, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo has confirmed physical and digital versions.

The release window is particularly interesting. Nintendo is dropping one of its biggest Zelda projects of the year only two weeks before Grand Theft Auto VI, which is scheduled for November 19.

Ocarina of Time is returning with a modern presentation, new mechanics and plenty of surprises, while Nintendo attempts the difficult balancing act of making a legendary classic feel fresh without losing what made it legendary in the first place.

Ocarina of Time en 2026, ça fait quand même quelque chose. Le jeu original a tellement marqué son époque que revoir Hyrule avec des graphismes modernes est assez fou. J'aime bien le fait que Nintendo conserve la base tout en ajoutant des améliorations de confort

Less than 24 hours have passed since the announcement and the opening of pre-orders for *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time*, yet in the United States, the limited editions of the Nintendo Switch 2 and the Pro Controller—marking the series' 40th anniversary—are already sold out. The limited-run console and both controller variants—the standard version and the one with a display stand—are no longer available on the US Nintendo Store or at other retailers. The "Young Link" and "Young Zelda" amiibo figures and the Nintendo Switch 2 travel case are also sold out. The buying frenzy isn't limited to the special editions; according to various reports, standard physical copies of the remake have also sold out at major online retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walmart. The reason is clear: the initial retail run features special packaging with a foil-finish cover—a detail attracting the interest of collectors... and scalpers.
