“You too can change the world! Join Mr Tesla aboard the Helios,” says the opening statement of Close to the Sun in its official website. You are invited to be part of Helios.

Close to the Sun is set in the year 1897 deep into the international waters where the Helios is standing still. The dark clouds and the strong waves crash against Helios’ hull. It’s magnificent albeit the circumstances, it’s decorated in gold, beautiful finery, and it stretches as long as your eyes can see.

This boat is born out of Nikola Tesla’s vision. It serves as the headquarters for the greatest scientific minds. It is dedicated to research, independent from any government interference and away from the prying gaze and curious minds of the society. You are free to push any boundaries of both matter and time.

But things seem to have gone awry when the Journalist Rose Archer joins the Helios with the goal of looking for her sister, Ada. The Helios is no longer the same, the Grand Halls stand empty, and there’s a stench of rotting flesh in the air. There’s intense silence and the word QUARANTINE written across the entrance.

Close to the Sun is a first-person horror adventure where surviving is the top priority. Teamwork is necessary for Rose to navigate her way through the ship safely. Rose will have to run for her life while hiding and thinking fast. It will be available in Epic Games Store sometime this year.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 'Ouroboros' system impact navigation within the Helios, and can it be exploited to bypass scripted sequences?
The Ouroboros functions as a central hub for manipulating the Helios's shifting environments. Players can use it to reroute power, open new pathways, and trigger changes to solve puzzles. While not directly allowing sequence skipping, its manipulation is essential for progression.
Given the nature of the Helios's environmental hazards, how does Rose's limited oxygen supply affect gameplay, and what strategies are viable to manage it effectively?
Rose's oxygen is a crucial resource, especially in areas with atmospheric anomalies. Players must prioritize finding oxygen refills or exploring safer routes to avoid suffocation. Strategic planning, rather than brute-force exploration, is key to survival.
How does the game's storytelling integrate with its environmental puzzles, and do the clues found within the ship directly correlate with the player's immediate objective?
The environment and puzzles are meticulously crafted to unveil the narrative. Clues are often found in areas related to objectives, encouraging players to explore and piece together information to progress the story.
What types of threats does Rose encounter within the Helios, and how does the game's mechanics provide tools to deal with them?
Rose will face environmental hazards (like radiation, fire) and psychological challenges derived from the ship's secrets. The game does not focus on direct combat; survival depends on solving puzzles, using the environment, and understanding enemy patterns.
How is the 'vision' mechanic implemented within the game to reveal hidden secrets of the ship, and what are the limitations surrounding its use?
The 'vision' mechanic unveils hidden passages or story hints, using visual cues to guide the player. The vision has limited use and recharge times, pushing players to select its use strategically.
How does the player's interaction with the ship's automated systems enhance or hinder their progress through specific areas?
Automated systems such as elevators, power grids and doors become crucial. Understanding their function and sequence becomes imperative for progress. Sometimes, sabotaging the systems might be required to alter the environment to solve a puzzle.
Does the narrative's progress hinge on the collection of specific items or artifacts found onboard the Helios, and what are the consequences of missing key items?
The narrative relies on finding documents, journals, and other items. Missing key items might not block progress, but can lead to an incomplete understanding of the story and its characters.
How does the shifting layout of the Helios influence the game's puzzle design, and are there any dynamic challenges that change based on player actions?
The shifting layout provides dynamic puzzles, which change based on player interaction with the Ouroboros system. The ability to change the ship's structure is key to the puzzle design.
To what extent does the game utilize environmental storytelling to convey the ship's history and the events that transpired before the game's beginning?
The Helios's history unfolds through environmental storytelling, showing events through the use of visual details, audio logs, and other environmental details. The environment acts as a visual chronicle of past events.
How does the game balance the elements of exploration and puzzle-solving within specific areas of the Helios?
Exploration and puzzle-solving are tightly interwoven. Players will explore environments to discover clues for solving puzzles, creating a fluid gameplay loop that emphasizes discovery as a key element to progress.
