Monster Hunter Rise is the next mainline game in the Monster Hunter series, following Monster Hunter World. This time you are in the Kamura Village, a beautiful land inspired by Asian folklore.
The village has all the facilities that you need as a hunter. Find the Hub Quests and Arena Quests in the Gathering Hub, visit the canteen or the market to find the items you need, and sell the spoils of your hunts. Use the Smithy to repair and upgrade your armor and weapons and get ready for The Rampage, the catastrophic event that periodically occurs.

The locals are frightened, the last time The Rampage attacked the village 50 years ago, countless monsters almost destroyed the entire village. They train and build a Stronghold to prepare for the next invasion and your mission is to help them fight off the monsters with 14 different weapon types. Use various types of endemic life to help you and explore the lands in a whole different way with the Wirebug, a bug that allows you to swing across gaps and works similar to a grapple. Ride the Palamute, a dog-like creature that can quickly climb cliffs and can also be used as a mount that performs attacks while fighting monsters, and take along your cat-like companion Palico.

The game features both single-player and local and online multiplayer modes for up to four hunters in a group. In single-player modes, the player hunts with both their Palico and Palamute companions. In the online modes, players select either the Palico or Palamute to join them.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Wirebug mechanic influence the core gameplay loop of Monster Hunter Rise, and what are the primary ways it enhances mobility and combat?
The Wirebug fundamentally alters traversal and combat. It allows for quick aerial movement, enabling hunters to scale cliffs, cross gaps, and reposition rapidly. In combat, it enables Silkbind attacks, powerful moves that consume Wirebug charges, offering diverse offensive and defensive options, like stunning monsters or launching attacks from the air.
Explain the concept of 'Switch Skills' and how they contribute to the player's build diversity and combat strategy for each weapon.
Switch Skills allow players to customize their weapon's moveset by swapping out specific attacks and combos. This enables adaptation to different hunting situations and monster weaknesses. For example, a Great Sword can switch between a slower, more powerful charge attack or a faster, combo-oriented attack, promoting strategic depth in how each weapon is played.
What is the primary function of 'Dango' in Monster Hunter Rise, and how does its use impact the beginning of a quest?
Dango are pre-quest meals that provide various buffs, like increased attack, defense, or status resistance. Players can select up to three Dango before a hunt, and their effects are determined by the Dango's qualities. Dango plays a vital role in quest preparation and can significantly improve a hunter's odds of success.
How does the 'Palamute' companion augment the traditional Monster Hunter gameplay, and what are its unique contributions compared to the Palico?
The Palamute is a rideable canine companion that enhances mobility and provides an alternative method of travel, allowing players to quickly navigate maps. While Palicos offer healing and support, the Palamute allows for faster traversal and can also participate in combat with their own attacks and the ability to sharpen weapons on the move.
Describe the core mechanics of 'Wyvern Riding' and how it allows players to utilize monsters against each other during hunts.
Wyvern Riding allows players to temporarily control a monster after weakening it with Wirebug attacks or other methods. While riding, players can control the monster's movements and attacks, allowing them to inflict significant damage on other monsters or the environment. It adds a layer of strategic depth by allowing the players to utilize the aggression of the monsters against each other.
How do 'Sub-Camps' alter the way players approach and utilize a hunting zone during a quest?
Sub-Camps provide additional locations within a hunting zone where players can rest, resupply, and fast-travel. This expands a hunter's tactical options by creating safe zones that can be used to re-strategize or restock items quickly. They also can provide convenient shortcuts around the map.
What are the key elements of the 'Rampage' quests, and what distinct gameplay mechanics do they introduce?
Rampage quests are a tower defense-style mode where players must protect the village from waves of monsters. Hunters set up defensive installations and use a combination of hunter attacks and environmental contraptions to fend off the attackers. This mode introduces a unique strategic experience with different objectives than traditional hunts.
How does the 'Buddy System' and specifically the recruitment and utilization of 'Buddies' (Palicoes and Palamutes), impact the solo and multiplayer experience in Monster Hunter Rise?
The Buddy System allows players to bring two companions into battle, a Palico and a Palamute. While playing solo, they provide crucial support, with Palicos offering healing and status effects, and Palamutes enhancing mobility. In multiplayer, players can still bring their Buddies, adding tactical advantages and strategic depth to team hunts.
How does the 'Follower Collab' system change the structure of single-player hunts, and what specific advantages does it provide?
Follower Collab allows players to undertake specific quests with NPC companions. These NPCs assist in combat, providing support and damage. It offers a single-player experience that still feels dynamic and provides the players with assistance, adding variety and an extra layer of difficulty.
In what ways do endemic life forms (e.g., Wirebugs, Spiribirds) influence combat and quest progression?
Endemic life forms provide tactical advantages and environmental interaction. Wirebugs are central to the mobility and combat system. Spiribirds give stat boosts, enhancing a hunter's strength and survivability. Other creatures provide buffs or can be used strategically during hunts, such as the Puppet Spider to trap monsters.

Having played it over 200 hours on Switch, I found it really cool. That said, a bit easy compared to the old ones. You can't expect as much content as MH World, but it's still quite enjoyable.
