We Were Here Forever is a co-op puzzle game where you must escape a sinister castle possessed by dark forces. Welcome to Castle Rock, an icy fortress filled with shadows, secrets, and puzzles to keep you awake at night. You and your partner had better figure out how to leave this place soon, or you’ll be trapped here forever!

Following the success of We Were Here, We Were Here Too, and We Were Here Together, you play with a partner who will be your lifeline throughout the game. You communicate with each other through walkie-talkies, and since you can’t see through your partner’s eyes, they will have to describe what they see to you and vice-versa. You must cooperate and act in tandem to solve the various tricky puzzles that you will encounter.

You both start off in the dungeons deep within Castle Rock, but the fun is just starting. You must escape to the Keep, then out into the haunted castle grounds, and even after you breach its walls, the journey's not over. You make your way to the town of Rockbury, where its inhabitants are forming a resistance. And from there, you move to a scary graveyard, then into the darkness of the Foundry.

What else awaits you in We Were Here Forever? Come and find out, if both of you dare!

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 'walkie-talkie' communication mechanic evolve beyond simply relaying information, and how does it become integral to solving puzzles?
The walkie-talkie isn't just for chatting. Puzzles often require precise timing, specific word cues, or coordinated actions based on audio instructions. Misinterpretations or delays can lead to failures, making clear, efficient communication a core puzzle element.
Beyond visual elements, how do sound cues and environmental audio play a critical role in solving the puzzles, and how is this different from other games?
Sound is vital. Hidden clues, triggered sounds, and the direction of audio sources provide vital hints. Players must listen closely, as ambient sounds or specific noises can unlock puzzle steps, making audio perception as important as visual observation.
In what ways do the puzzles force players to cooperate beyond simply describing what they see on their screens?
Puzzles often demand simultaneous actions, intricate timing, and the ability to interpret your partner's actions and verbal instructions in real time. This goes beyond simple communication; success hinges on understanding your partner's perspective and anticipating their moves.
How do the different player roles, if any, contribute to the dynamic and challenge the players' individual strengths?
While roles aren't explicitly assigned, the environment dictates that players specialize. One might be in a dark area with limited visuals, and the other with a detailed view of a mechanism. Each must rely on the other's strengths and adapt to the constraints of their situation.
How are the puzzles designed to encourage the use of specific terminology, and why is this critical for success?
Puzzles frequently utilize specific keywords, phrases, or symbols that both players must recognize and use. Effective communication using this shared language is the only path to solving the challenges, highlighting the need for efficient and accurate information exchange.
What is unique about the way the game uses asymmetry in the environment to create puzzles, and how does it challenge player perception?
The environments may present different views or access to information for each player. This forces players to combine their partial perspectives and communicate to build a complete picture. Misunderstandings of environmental differences are as dangerous as the puzzles themselves.
How do the puzzle mechanics evolve throughout the game to introduce new challenges and maintain a sense of discovery?
The game introduces new mechanics and puzzle types gradually. Players must adapt to new rules, communication styles, and environmental challenges. This continuous evolution prevents the gameplay from becoming repetitive and forces players to constantly re-evaluate strategies.
Beyond the core puzzle elements, how does the game create a sense of shared experience and challenge players' emotional intelligence?
The pressure of time-sensitive puzzles and the need to rely on your partner to overcome obstacles can create tension. Success depends not only on puzzle-solving skills but also on clear communication and mutual trust, which add to the immersion.
In what ways does the game's narrative tie into the puzzle-solving mechanics, and how does this affect the players' experience?
The story subtly integrates into the gameplay. As players progress, they may uncover clues to the overall plot through puzzle elements. This narrative integration adds layers of meaning to the puzzle and encourages players to pay attention to details.
How do environmental constraints, such as limited visibility, or spatial challenges influence the gameplay?
Some areas limit vision or mobility. One player might navigate a maze while the other directs them, based on a map they can't see. These limitations create high stakes for the need of communication.
