Blasphemous 2 announces 'Mea Culpa' DLC

Blasphemous 2 is a 2D action-platformer in the Metroidvania genre, heavily influenced by Dark Souls-like gameplay and featuring a Gothic religious theme. Released in August 2023, the game was very well-received by the community.

About a month ago, nearly exactly one year after its launch, publisher Team 17 revealed a short teaser trailer introducing a mysterious DLC set to release in Fall 2024. And now, we finally know the contents of this mysterious DLC.

Blasphemous 2 will receive two new updates after a long wait. On the upcoming October 31, a paid DLC named 'Mea Culpa' along with a free update will be added to Blasphemous 2 on all platforms. These updates will bring new content to the game, including new enemies, a new OST, game improvements, and much more.

A new journey awaits

In a Steam Update Note, Team 17 revealed that the new DLC for Blasphemous 2, 'Mea Culpa', will revolve around Mea Culpa, the lost sword once wielded by The Penitent One in the first game. The DLC will introduce various new content to the game, including:

• 2 new zones
• 2 bosses
• 4 new quests
• An alternate ending for The Penitent One
• A new (yet familiar) weapon and ability
• New prayers
• New rosary beads
• New Argent board figures
• New achievements

Additionally, on the same day as the DLC release, all players will receive a completely free update called True Torment. This update will introduce a much-requested New Game+ mode to the game, along with diverse new content and additional improvements:

• Expanded zones: Choir of Thorns, Sunken Cathedral and Basilica of Ancient Faces have all been reforged with new challenges to explore and conquer.
• New connecting zones: Quicker traversal between zones you've already explored so you can dash your way across the world faster than Sarmiento and Centella.
• A new challenge: The Labyrinth of Tides presents a new challenge for those ready to face it. 
• New Game+: Totally adjustable difficulty options to upgrade your save game, from stronger enemies to deadlier spikes and lethal falls.
• New enemies: Cvstodia's denizens rise to face you, are you up to their challenge?
• Plus a host of upgrades for the Penitent One, Quality of Life improvements and new Achievements.
