A popular fan-made virtual reality (VR) mod created by developer Luke Ross was recently removed after CDPR issued a DMCA takedown notice. In enforcing these rules, CDPR also clarified that the mod could be returned if it were made freely available, with only optional donations accepted. Ross declined this option, asserting that his work deserved compensation and contesting the interpretation of the legal boundaries. As a result, the mod remains offline.

Some support CDPR’s right to control how its intellectual property is used, noting that monetized mods can create legal and quality control problems if left unchecked.
