Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown Takes Players Beyond Pywel

Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown Expansion Sets Sail This October
Release date

Crimson Desert is about to get considerably bigger, and apparently the original map wasn't enough. Pearl Abyss has officially announced Charting the Unknown, the first expansion for its open-world action-adventure game. The new DLC will arrive after the game has officially turned into Crimson Desert Enhanced, and it will take players beyond the familiar shores of Pywel, adding new locations, underwater exploration, story content, gameplay systems, and plenty of opportunities to wander off in completely the wrong direction.

Charting a New Course Beyond Pywel

Scheduled to launch on October 15, 2026, Charting the Unknown will expand Crimson Desert beyond its existing boundaries. One of the expansion's headline features is the introduction of ocean exploration, allowing players to take command of a ship and sail toward new islands. The sea isn't simply there to make the world look pretty, either. Players will be able to dive underwater and explore submerged locations, search for hidden treasures, uncover ancient ruins, and encounter new mysteries beneath the surface. Considering how dangerous Pywel can already be on dry land, venturing into its waters probably isn't going to be a relaxing sightseeing cruise.

The new islands and underwater areas should also give exploration a fresh dimension. Crimson Desert has always placed a major emphasis on freedom and discovery, and the expansion looks set to build on that philosophy by giving players an entirely new environment to investigate.

Kliff's Story Continues

The expansion also continues the journey of Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane, with the trio facing new challenges and uncovering secrets that expand the world of Crimson Desert. Pearl Abyss has teased several intriguing elements surrounding the new story, including an ominous presence in the desert, political conflicts, ancient mysteries, and a journey that apparently reaches beyond time. There is also a major mystery waiting beneath the ocean, tying the expansion's new exploration mechanics directly into its narrative.

Pearl Abyss is also expanding some of Crimson Desert's non-combat activities with the expansion, giving players more ways to spend their time between battles. The expansion will allow players to rent and manage various facilities, while an upgraded Housing system will provide additional customization options. Players will also be able to develop deeper relationships with the inhabitants of Pywel.
