Pearl Abyss just gave Crimson Desert a massive free enhanced upgrade
A lot of AAA games nowadays spend their first months fixing their rough edges, but Crimson Desert had a plan and stuck to it.
Pearl Abyss’ open-world action adventure launched on March 19, 2026, and its first few months have been ridiculously busy. The game passed 6 million copies sold worldwide in just 83 days, while Pearl Abyss kept piling on updates rather than simply moving on to the next big thing.
By August, Crimson Desert had received 17 patches, bringing more than 20 new features and content additions, 120 new mounts and pets, plus 70 new outfits, pieces of equipment and items. Those updates have included everything from difficulty settings and boss rematches to rideable Wyverns, small animal pets, new minigames, outdoor housing customization, cross-save support and even improvements to distant scenery graphics. Now all of that work has been wrapped into something much bigger: Crimson Desert Enhanced.
The result of a company that’s not greedy
Rather than selling it as a separate edition, Pearl Abyss is turning the original game into Crimson Desert Enhanced through the free 2.00.00 update. Existing owners simply need to update their game, with all post-launch additions included at no extra cost.
And 2.0 isn't just a new name slapped onto the box. Pearl Abyss has gone back into the main story and improved its narrative flow, adding new cutscenes, story moments, dialogue, conversations, items, knowledge and Memory Fragments to give certain bosses more narrative depth. It's the sort of change that could make starting a fresh journey through Pywel particularly tempting, even for players who have already spent dozens of hours exploring it.
Gameplay is getting some meaningful attention too. Kliff receives eight new skills, while a new resource called Abyss Link changes how skills are learned across playable characters. Skill progression can now be reset individually for each character, and players who complete the main quests can carry Abyss Links and certain currencies into a new game. Flying mount controls have also been expanded, while the Golden Star battle has been divided into distinct phases with new attack patterns.
There's something refreshing about seeing a game evolve this quickly. Five months, millions of players, 17 patches and now a free Enhanced update make Crimson Desert feel considerably different from the game that arrived in March.
