Directive 8020: When Mimicry Fear Takes Over Tau Ceti f

Directive 8020: Fear of Mimicry on Tau Ceti f

How would you feel if the future destiny of humanity was placed in your hands? When the Earth is slowly dying, and you are the last hope? However, what happens if you and your crew crash-land on a planet teeming with lurking dangers? Step into the shoes of a crew member aboard the ship in Directive 8020.

Can you trust your teammates when the enemy has the ability to mimic them perfectly?

Directive 8020 is an upcoming sci-fi survival horror game, marking a significant evolution for The Dark Pictures Anthology series from developer Supermassive Games (creators of Until Dawn and The Quarry). The game is set to be released on May 12, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Steam). Developed on Unreal Engine 5, Directive 8020 promises incredibly detailed and realistic graphics.

The game takes place in a future where Earth is dying, and humanity places its hope in the planet Tau Ceti f, located 12 light-years from home. Players will take on the role of astronaut Young (played by Hollywood actress Lashana Lynch), who is member of a crew whose ship malfunctions and crashes into the colony on the planet Cassiopeia.

After crashing on this planet, the crew soon realizes they are not alone. The planet is inhabited by an alien species capable of perfectly mimicking humans. This creates extreme suspicion and panic, as players do not know who is human and who is a monster.

Unlike previous titles from Supermassive Games, which focused heavily on cinematic cutscenes and Quick Time Events, Directive 8020 adds more direct action mechanics:

  • Stealth: You must directly control your character to evade monsters in the dark corridors of the ship.

  • Improvised Weapons: You can use tools and improvised weapons to fight against threats in real-time.

  • "Turning Points" System: A new story flowchart allows you to review key decisions and explore multiple branches and different endings.

  • Game Modes: Supports single-player or online/local co-op (split-screen).

This game is strongly inspired by classics such as Alien, The Thing, and Event Horizon, focusing on isolation and the paranoid fear of not knowing who is an enemy and who is an ally. If you are looking for a sci-fi horror game set in space, you should not miss this title. Remember to use our comparison tool to purchase Directive 8020 at the best price.

I’m all about motorcycles, retro gaming, and the golden handheld era of the PSP and PS Vita. I love the thrill of the ride just as much as the nostalgia of classic games. I believe games can bring people together, spark creativity, and make the world a little brighter—one adventure at a time.
