Greedfall gets a release date

Spiders have been rather silent since they launched Bound by Flame and The Technomancer. We know that they are developing their upcoming role-playing game, Greedfall. The release date for the title has just been revealed through a brand new trailer that lets us take a peek at a world that looks quite familiar and unusual at the same time.

Greedfall takes place in an alternate 17th century in a world full of magic. The rumors of hidden treasures, untold riches, and lost secrets have driven many settlers, mercenaries, and treasure hunters to the shores of a remote island where nobody "civilized" has set foot ever before. You are on a mission to look for a cure for a plague that is ravaging your country, but as you arrive at the island, you discover that there is more than what you have been told. The island is inhabited, and there is a boiling conflict between the natives that fight to protect their lands and several foreign factions, each with their own reasons to try to claim and control the rare resources of this strange place. The locals have the aid of the magic of their own land that manifests in the form of supernatural beings and beasts. The foreign factions include merchants, a religious sect, settlers, and many others that don't care at all for the customs and inhabitants of this new land. You will be dropped in the middle of this conflict, and as the story progresses, your decisions will have an impact on the development of the game.

Greedfall focuses heavily on storytelling and lore. You will complete missions, but they are there just to shape the story and expand the lore, so you won't see the typical fetch quests that seem to plague every RPG nowadays. Discovery, negotiation, knowledge, and diplomacy will be as important as your combat skills to progress through the story, deal with the different factions, and achieve your objectives. To create a world that matches the narrative depth of the game, Greedfall takes inspiration from European Baroque art to deliver a living, evolving world with a unique visual identity and grandiose sceneries that will delight the players. Even though it's an RPG at its core, Greedfall also gives players a great deal of freedom, allowing them to customize their characters however they like regarding their looks, their skills, and their equipment and gameplay style. Greedfall looks like quite an attractive proposition for those that would like to experience an epic story in a unique setting. This story of discovery and exploration will launch on September 10th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
