The Boogeyman has a million new neighbours
The Boogeyman is having a very busy Halloween. Just days after launching, Halloween: The Game has already attracted more than one million players, showing that Michael Myers still has plenty of victims—or, in this case, curious players—waiting to enter Haddonfield. Based on the iconic Halloween franchise, the asymmetrical horror game launched on September 8, bringing the legendary killer to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. According to the game's official Steam announcement, the game has now surpassed the one-million-player milestone.
Haddonfield has become a playground for the Boogeyman
Halloween: The Game turns the setting of the original 1978 movie into a multiplayer hunting ground. One player takes control of Michael Myers, while up to four others become the Heroes of Haddonfield and attempt to survive the night. Michael has the obvious advantage: he is the terrifying masked killer stalking the streets. The survivors, meanwhile, need to explore their surroundings, find useful items, cooperate with one another and try to get help before Michael catches up with them. The result is a familiar asymmetrical horror formula with a distinctly Halloween flavour. Instead of simply hiding from the killer, survivors can interact with Haddonfield and its inhabitants, creating opportunities to fight back and influence how the match develops.

The game's appeal isn't limited to multiplayer matches. Halloween: The Game includes a single-player experience called The Night He Came Home, allowing players to experience Michael Myers' story from the killer's perspective. That is a particularly important addition for a game built around such a recognizable horror icon. After all, some players probably don't want to spend Halloween being chased through a suburban house—they want to be the reason everyone else is screaming. The combination of single-player content and asymmetrical multiplayer gives the game two distinct ways to experience its version of Haddonfield.
One million players is only the beginning
The one-million-player milestone is an impressive early achievement, but it also raises a more interesting question: can Halloween: The Game keep those players around?
Licensed horror games often enjoy a significant launch boost thanks to fans of their source material. Titles like Friday the 13th: The Game and Dead by Daylight have already demonstrated that the genre has many followers, and Michael Myers is arguably one of the most recognizable figures in slasher history, giving Halloween: The Game an obvious advantage when it comes to attracting attention. The challenge now is turning that initial curiosity into a long-lasting community. Multiplayer horror games depend heavily on an active player base, regular content and enough variety to keep matches from becoming predictable.
For now, though, the numbers suggest that plenty of players were ready to answer Michael's call. More than one million players have already entered Haddonfield. The only question is how many will make it out alive. If you want to dive into this exciting horror expereince, our comparator offers you the best deals for Halloween: The Game with a single click.
