Lies of P is getting a new update alongside its DLC later this year

Lies of P, the dark and captivating reimagining of Pinocchio, has earned a reputation as one of the best Souls-like games released in recent years. Its success is only growing, with a DLC expansion already confirmed to launch later this year. Developer Neowiz appears fully committed to expanding the game’s universe and evolving its gameplay.

It was recently announced that Neowiz will introduce two new difficulty options and a Boss Rush mode in an upcoming free update. These additions will arrive alongside Lies of P: Overture, Lies of P’s highly anticipated prequel DLC.

As reported by VGC, game director Jiwon Choi revealed new details about Lies of P: Overture. This DLC will not only deliver a fresh narrative but also introduce a new "Battle Memories" mode, allowing players to re-challenge bosses from both the main game and the DLC content. Alongside the DLC, the base game will receive a free update that adds two new difficulty modes: Butterfly’s Guidance (an easier mode) and Awakened Puppet (a harder mode), while the current difficulty setting will be labeled as Legendary Stalker.

A Shift Away from Traditional Souls-Like Design

This marks a significant change for Lies of P, which has been praised for staying true to the challenging design philosophy of FromSoftware titles. The decision to introduce difficulty options surprised many fans, but Neowiz’s approach has a purpose.

When asked about the motivation behind this update, director Jiwon Choi explained:

"By making development adjustments and introducing these difficulty options, we can offer the experience to different types of players. This broadens the base."

The move is clearly an effort to make the game more accessible and attract a wider audience—a contrast to the rigid difficulty stance seen in most Souls-likes.

While the addition of multiple difficulty settings may spark debate about whether Lies of P still fits within the “Souls-like” label, the game’s gripping combat, haunting Belle Époque-inspired world, and bold storytelling continue to make it a standout experience—regardless of challenge level.
