Toreador & Lasombra Now Free in Bloodlines 2
Paradox Interactive has made a major U-turn on its content plans for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Following intense criticism from fans, the publisher announced that it would make changes. It has now officially confirmed that the Toreador and Lasombra clans will no longer be sold as part of a premium package. Instead, they'll be available to all players in the base game when it launches.
You did it!
Originally, the studio had intended to lock both clans behind day-one paid DLC or the game's more expensive Premium Edition. That approach was met with immediate backlash, as many argued that vampire clans are fundamental to the role-playing experience of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 and should never be withheld as optional extras. The decision even prompted preorder refunds on the PlayStation Store while Paradox reevaluated its strategy.
In a statement addressing the controversy, executive producer Marco Behrmann thanked fans for their blunt feedback and admitted the original plan had been a mistake. He explained that after reviewing community sentiment, Paradox agreed that Toreador and Lasombra should "belong in the base game" and confirmed that the change would be made before release.
The reversal means Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will ship with six playable clans at launch, ensuring players have access to the full range of archetypes without additional purchases. While this move resolves the most heated criticism, Paradox is not abandoning post-launch monetization entirely. Two story expansions, Loose Cannon and The Flower & The Flame, remain in development and are scheduled for release in 2026 as part of the game’s expansion pass.
Reactions to the announcement have been largely positive. Fans have praised the decision as proof that vocal community feedback can shape major publisher decisions. However, many remain cautious, pointing to the game's long and troubled development cycle, frequent delays, and earlier communication missteps.
By putting core gameplay options back into the base experience, Paradox appears to be trying to repair trust with a dedicated but skeptical audience. With the final release date set for October 21, 2025, the focus now shifts to whether Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 can deliver on the promise of a true successor to its cult-classic predecessor.
