The Witcher 4 skips the Game Awards 2025 reveal
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher 4 will not appear at this year’s The Game Awards, even though the game is nominated in the Most Anticipated category. It’s a quiet move for a title many assumed would headline the night—especially after last year’s debut trailer ignited speculation, breakdowns, and months of discussion across the community. Yet the studio seems more focused on building the future of the Witcher era than chasing showcase moments.
CDPR Says The Game Awards Will Not Feature New Witcher 4 Material
I’m very happy to see The Witcher 4 nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards. Thanks to everyone who has already voted - your support means a lot of to us. We won’t be bringing any new content to TGA this year, but we’re, as always, excited to watch the…

The confirmation came from co-CEO Michał Nowakowski, who shared that the studio “won’t be bringing any new content to TGA this year.” His statement struck a warm, appreciative tone, but made it clear that fans shouldn’t expect trailers, teasers, or even brief technical updates during the ceremony.
That decision makes sense, considering how early the project still is. The Witcher 4 only entered full production late last year, placing the team deep in the foundation-building phase, where systems, pipelines, and narrative structures must be solidified long before any show-stopping gameplay is ready. Even the footage shown during the State of Unreal this past June turned out to be a tech demo, not actual in-progress gameplay.
In the background, CD Projekt Red has been expanding its team aggressively. Over 60 developers joined in August alone, with more hires following—including the lead gameplay designer from Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, who brings a strong technical combat background. The studio also confirmed that the project is being developed with a console-first approach, a notable shift from its previous PC-led tradition.
For players still enjoying the success of Cyberpunk 2077—which recently passed 35 million sales faster than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt—the expectation is that CDPR will take its time. With Cyberpunk 2, a Witcher 1 remake, and an external Witcher partnership project all in development, the studio is juggling more major titles than ever.
The Witcher 4 is not expected until 2027 at the earliest, so CDPR pulling back from flashy reveals this year may simply be a sign that the studio wants its next major showcase to be meaningful—not just a placeholder.
