Ubisoft is working to revive Rayman

Ubisoft Milan is officially recruiting developers for a new Rayman game that would mark the franchise's first major return in over a decade. Developed in collaboration with Ubisoft Montpellier, the project is currently in its early "exploration phase," but promises to reawaken one of Ubisoft's most iconic platformers.

An official job listing for an animator confirms that the new Rayman game will be a AAA title.

"Ubisoft Milan is seeking a talented 3D Gameplay Animator to be involved in the production of a prestigious AAA title for the Rayman brand. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and content of gameplay animation assets align with the game's vision."

An epic return

Rayman, created in 1995 by Michel Ancel, became a flagship character for Ubisoft. Titles like Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends, both developed by Montpellier, remain some of the most visually inventive and critically acclaimed 2D platformers ever made. Montpellier's animation and design legacy continues to shape this new project, though Milan now leads the creative charge. There is no news about Michel Ancel's involvement in the project. He officially retired from video game development in 2020.

Ubisoft Milan has proven its talent for playful design and strategic gameplay with Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, traits well suited for a Rayman revival. However, the turn-based strategy game didn't quite hit the mark in terms of sales.

Whether this new game is a remake, reboot, or entirely new adventure remains unclear. But with two strong studios teaming up, Rayman fans may finally see the return of the iconic platformer franchise.
