Everdark Sovereign Caligo Arrives in Nightreign Update

Caligo Joins Elden Ring: Nightreign’s New Boss Rotation

The world of Elden Ring: Nightreign is set to grow darker and deadlier with the arrival of a new Everdark Sovereign. FromSoftware has officially announced that an enhanced version of Fissure in the Fog, now known as Caligo, Miasma of Night, will descend upon players on August 7, 2025, at 03:00 CEST (18:00 PDT / 10:00 JST).

The announcement was shared via an evocative post on X (formerly Twitter), in true FromSoftware fashion. The teaser reads: “From a frozen haze, the winged terror emerges. Let flames rend these frost-laced shadows.” The poetic phrasing has ignited speculation across the community about what terrors lie ahead in Caligo's reimagined form.

A Rematch Reinvented

The new Everdark Sovereign form of Fissure in the Fog isn't just a reskin. Caligo will enter battle already in its second phase, skipping the initial buildup entirely. From there, the fight escalates into a brand-new third phase, packed with mechanics not seen in the base version. Among the rumored additions is a devastating back-facing breath attack, possibly laced with poison or scarlet rot, which would add a new layer of danger for melee-focused players who typically stay behind bosses for safety. Environmental effects and sweeping area-of-effect attacks are also expected to play a major role in Caligo’s upgraded arsenal. The shift forces players to reconsider their strategies and gear, especially those relying on status resistance and mobility.

Caligo is the latest addition in Nightreign’s rotating Everdark Sovereign event, which kicked off on July 31. The system brings enhanced versions of select bosses to the forefront in limited-time rotations. Caligo replaces Everdark Augur, whose run ended earlier the same day, and will hold the spotlight for the following week. Afterward, players can expect two more Everdark Sovereigns to appear: Tricephalos and Equilibrious Beast, both of which were previewed during the cycle’s announcement in July. Each boss in this event brings distinct combat enhancements, visuals, and reward drops. This evolving format has been praised for keeping late-game content fresh and challenging for veterans, particularly those who’ve already bested the DLC’s toughest foes.

Many players were hoping for a more intense take on Fissure in the Fog, long considered one of the most atmospheric but mechanically straightforward bosses. With the new third phase and speculated status effects, Caligo could rise from a mid-tier memory to an unforgettable fight. Combat-focused players are already devising strategies and planning builds to counter the anticipated toxic elements of the new moveset.

As with other Everdark Sovereigns, defeating Caligo will reward players with Sovereign Sigils, a unique currency that can be traded for rare relics, upgraded rites, and cosmetic items exclusive to this event cycle. For many, the chance to earn limited-edition gear and test their skills against these reworked foes is reason enough to return to the battlefield.

This upcoming clash with Caligo promises to be one of Nightreign’s most memorable encounters to date. Remember to check out the lowest price for Elden Ring: Nightreign with our comparator if you haven't discovered this epic experience in the world of Elden Ring yet.
