Darkest Dungeon 2 reveals its progression system

Although Darkest Dungeon 2 is still in early access, the game has already capitalized on its predecessor's huge success. Darkest Dungeon is one of those games that created a genre by itself and many games have copied its singular approach to turn-based mechanics. The Altar of Hope acts as a hub of sorts where you can unlock passive benefits and bonuses for your adventurers. You need to buy them with a new type of currency that you will gain on every mission: the Candles of Hope. You can now retire at any inn to save the candles you have gained so far, or you can continue adventuring risking losing some of them if you die. But if you reach the Mountain area and the last inn in your journey, you won't receive any penalties if you fail after that. This new mechanic introduces a new strategic element in Darkest Dungeon 2.

Among the bonuses you can unlock at the Altar of Hope, you can find a wide number of enhancements, both general and specific ones for every character, as well as new items and memories that will grant unique powers to each individual hero.

With the addition of the Altar of Hope, Darkest Dungeon 2 is much closer to the original experience and the game finally offers a stable way of progressing that does not get wiped after every run beyond unlocking the stories and abilities of every character. Although Red Hook Studios has not confirmed a release date for the final version of the game, the early access version delivers an amazing experience that is getting better with every patch and plenty of fans are already enjoying it.
