Shift Up stunned fans at Summer Game Fest 2026 by officially announcing Stellar Blade: BLOOD RAIN, a standalone sequel to their hit 2024 action-RPG. Currently in active development for about a year, this new entry introduces massive shifts in both narrative focus and gameplay design.

Moving away from the sprawling, desolate expanses of the original title, Stellar Blade, Blood Rain drops players into a dense, cyberpunk-inspired urban landscape heavily influenced by cities like Chongqing. Players will navigate a linear yet deeply detailed city structure, packed with accessible shops and a wealth of side content, as they track down a mysterious terrorist organization responsible for a devastating urban attack.

 

 

Meet Evie: The Fierce New Hero and Her Brutal Brawler Combat

The most shocking revelation is the departure from the original protagonist, Eve. Instead, players take control of Evie, a short-haired, hot-headed special forces operative. Alongside a fiercer personality, Evie brings a radical redesign to the franchise's signature combat.

Rather than relying on a sword from the start, Blood Rain features a "fist-first" brawler style where Evie dominates close-quarters combat using high-tech gauntlets, emphasizing intense boxing, weaving, and precise parry-based counters. While the iconic blade gameplay will return, swords must be unlocked later in the campaign, tied directly to significant narrative milestones.

New Platforms, No Exclusivity: What’s Next for the Studio

In a major corporate shift, Stellar Blade: BLOOD RAIN will be self-published by Shift Up rather than Sony. This strategic pivot aims for a simultaneous global, multi-platform launch across current-gen consoles and PC from day one. While the core art direction and initial narrative acts are fully finalized, the studio is currently optimizing the new combat mechanics and finalizing the script's second half. No release date has been set, but the sequel promises a bold, fresh direction for the franchise.

Pour l’instant, je trouve que l’annonce reste assez légère. On a vu quelques séquences, un nouveau personnage et une orientation différente du gameplay, mais au final très peu de choses concrètes sur le contenu du jeu. Surtout, aucune date de sortie ni même fenêtre de lancement n’a été communiquée, ce qui laisse penser que le projet est encore loin d’être prêt. J’attends d’en voir davantage avant de vraiment m’emballer. Les bases semblent prometteuses, mais cette première présentation soulève plus de questions qu’elle n’apporte de réponses

We’ve seen a few clips, a new character, and a different gameplay direction, but ultimately very little concrete information about the game’s content. Most importantly, no release date or even a launch window has been announced, which suggests the project is still far from ready. I’m waiting to see more before I get too excited. The foundation looks promising, but this first presentation raises more questions than it answers.

Je n’ai pas particulièrement d’attentes pour Blood Rain. Le premier Stellar Blade était plutôt bon, avec un gameplay efficace et une direction artistique réussie, mais il ne m’a pas laissé aucun souvenir. J’attends surtout d’en voir davantage pour savoir si cette nouvelle aventure apportera quelque chose de vraiment marquant
I don’t really have any expectations for Blood Rain. The first Stellar Blade was pretty good, with solid gameplay and great art direction, but it didn’t leave much of an impression on me. I’m mostly waiting to see more to find out if this new adventure will offer anything truly memorable.

L’annonce est intrigante, surtout avec une nouvelle héroïne, un univers plus urbain et l’idée d’élargir la formule du premier jeu. Maintenant, il faut surtout que Shift Up évite de miser seulement sur le style visuel et confirme un vrai gain en profondeur de combat et en contenu.

Bardzo podoba mi się kierunek, w którym idą twórcy – zamiast powielać schematy, stawiają na świeże podejście i wyraźne zmiany w narracji oraz rozgrywce. Cyberpunkowy, miejski klimat inspirowany takimi miejscami jak Chongqing brzmi niezwykle klimatycznie i daje ogromny potencjał na wciągającą historię. Cieszy też większy nacisk na szczegółowość świata i bardziej „żywe” otoczenie, pełne aktywności pobocznych i interakcji. Motyw tajemniczej organizacji terrorystycznej dodaje intrygi i sprawia, że fabuła zapowiada się jeszcze ciekawiej niż w poprzedniej części.
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain promises to be truly sensational! I really like the direction in which the developers are going - instead of duplicating patterns, they are opting for a fresh approach and clear changes in the narrative and gameplay. The cyberpunk, urban atmosphere inspired by places like Chongqing sounds extremely atmospheric and gives great potential for an immersive story, and the greater emphasis on world detail and more "living" environments, full of side activities and interactions, is also gratifying. The motif of a mysterious terrorist organization adds intrigue and makes the plot promise to be even more interesting than in the previous installment.
