Stellar Blade sold more than 1 million units in 2 months

SHIFT UP, a South Korean developer behind Stellar Blade, announced that their game has sold over 1 million units. At a press conference, and as described on the Korean website Gamevu, SHIFT UP's CEO, Hyung-tae Kim, took to the stage to share the company's future plans and their focus on producing high-quality games for the market. Next up was SHIFT UP's CFO, Ahn Jae Woo, who spoke further about the company and shared sales data.

According to Ahn Jae Woo, the title has frequently appeared among the best-sellers in various regions, such as the UK, the US, and Japan. He adds:

"Since its release, it has reached the top spot in sales in major console markets like the US and UK, and cumulative sales are estimated to have surpassed one million units."

Stellar Blade was released on April 26th. At the time, it was the best-selling game in the PSN Store, surpassing others like Helldivers 2 and Dragon's Dogma II. Despite the sales figure beating 1 million, an extremely successful figure for a new PS5-exclusive IP, many fans expected the game to have sold much more, considering its position in the rankings.

Still, at the press conference, SHIFT UP shared more relevant data, reinforcing the Stellar Blade's success. According to the developer, Stellar Blade achieved a 92 user score at Metacritic, outperforming other Sony exclusives like Ghost of Tsushima and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. To ensure the game continues to receive support, SHIFT UP promised they are working on adding a new photo mode, more character skins, an IP collaboration, and DLC to Stellar Blade.

Stellar Blade to Receive DLC in the Future

On other occasions, Hyung-tae Kim stated that he fully intends to produce a sequel to Stellar Blade. The first game, initially known as Project Eve, was announced in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Two years later, it resurfaced with a trailer at a PlayStation Showcase, showing that the game had become a PlayStation 5 exclusive. A year later, during a 2022 State of Play, Project Eve received a story trailer and a title change to Stellar Blade. The game was initially set to be released at the end of 2023 but was delayed to April 2024, marking a significant milestone in its development.

Since then, Stellar Blade has been capturing the public's attention and making waves, whether for its gameplay or controversies surrounding the protagonist's body and outfits.
