Styx: Blades of Greed Demo Now Available
The latest installment in the beloved Styx series, Styx: Blades of Greed, is now offering a demo on Steam, giving players a chance to explore roughly the first hour of the game before its full release on February 19, 2026. The demo allows progress to be carried over to the final version, ensuring that early players won't have to replay the opening sequence once the full game launches. Developed by Cyanide Studio and published by Nacon, the game continues the saga of Styx, the clever goblin thief, now in a larger and more dynamic world.
A new scenario to explore
The demo introduces players to The Wall, one of the game's first major environments, and includes thrilling missions such as executing a daring zeppelin heist under the watchful eyes of the Inquisition. With these sequences, the demo showcases the franchise's signature stealth gameplay while hinting at the new features and tools that Styx will wield in this installment.
Compared to its predecessors, Styx: Blades of Greed brings several notable innovations. One of the most significant changes is the expansion of level design, moving away from the linear, corridor-style levels of Styx: Master of Shadows (2014) and Styx: Shards of Darkness (2017). Players can now explore larger, vertical, and more open environments, offering multiple ways to approach objectives, including stealth and environmental manipulation.
In addition to more expansive levels, Styx's movement and traversal options have been upgraded. Tools like grappling hooks and gliders allow for creative exploration and unconventional infiltration routes, enhancing both stealth strategies and player freedom. These additions provide a more dynamic experience, giving players multiple ways to tackle challenges and adding a sense of verticality previously unseen in the series.
A new gameplay mechanic called Quartz introduces unique abilities, including mind control and time manipulation, which complement franchise's classic powers such as cloning and invisibility. Quartz encourages experimentation and adds depth to stealth encounters, puzzles, and combat situations, providing players with more tactical flexibility than ever before.
The narrative of Styx: Blades of Greed also reflects a shift toward greater player agency. Styx is no longer merely working for others; he now leads his own crew aboard a zeppelin, directing his own schemes and heists. This change supports a more player-driven story, where choices in mission execution and strategy can affect how the game unfolds, giving the franchise a fresh narrative dimension.
The demo confirms that Styx: Blades of Greed successfully blends the classic elements of the series (strategic stealth, cunning, and high-risk gameplay) with modern enhancements, including open environments and new abilities. The demo offers a compelling glimpse into what promises to be a more ambitious, flexible, and engaging adventure for the iconic goblin thief.
