Grand Theft Auto VI receives a new trailer focusing on Jason

Earlier this month, Rockstar announced the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI. While the news was well received by some—especially publishers or developers who can now finally set release dates for their games without going head-to-head with GTA VI—it was also a cold shower. That's because both Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive had sworn up and down that Grand Theft Auto VI would launch in 2025, which is no longer true. GTA VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, while the PC version is expected sometime in 2027 if it follows the same pattern as Grand Theft Auto V.

To calm the nerves of fans and the entire industry, Rockstar dropped a second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI out of nowhere. The new trailer has no gameplay footage and only shows cutscenes, but all were captured directly from a PS5, which suggests the visuals seen there are the same we'll get during gameplay. Another detail that has the industry scratching its head is wondering how the game will perform on Xbox Series S since Microsoft's on-a-budget console has already struggled to run titles like Black Myth: Wukong and Baldur's Gate III.

Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer Showcases Jason

The new Grand Theft Auto VI trailer is focused on Jason Duval, the game's male protagonist whose name we only knew through leaks. At the start of the game, he meets Lucia Caminos, who's just getting out of prison. Judging by how often they make out during the trailer, it's clear the two are a couple. Together, they dive into a life of crime, the theme all Grand Theft Auto games are known. The preview also shows several high-octane scenes, like the two protagonists apparently hijacking a moving truck, fleeing a chase while blowing up cars, and Lucia in what looks like a fighting cage. We also see several characters that will likely be staples throughout the story, like Cal Hampton, a close friend of Jason, and Boobie Ike, a crime legend who owns clubs and pretty much the entire drug operation in Vice City.

It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Grand Theft Auto VI is one of the most anticipated games of the decade. Many pundits believe the game's release will turn the industry on its head and drive console sales for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The launch delay will slow down the industry's growth in 2025, but all eyes are now set on 2026. Grand Theft Auto VI will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on May 26, 2026.
