Assassin's Creed Shadows will be playable on Switch 2 on December

Assassin's Creed Shadows confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2

Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, 2025, marking a major milestone for the Assassin’s Creed franchise and for Nintendo's new hardware. The announcement, accompanied by the game's first Switch 2 trailer, showcases the vibrant open world of feudal Japan, where players can alternate between the stealthy Naoe and the warrior Yasuke.

The confirmation ends months of speculation following leaks from retailers and insiders. According to Ubisoft, the Switch 2 version will deliver the "complete Assassin's Creed Shadows experience," optimized for portable and docked play alike.

A Next-Gen Assassin’s Creed experience on Switch 2

The arrival of Assassin’s Creed Shadows on the Switch 2 represents Ubisoft’s biggest technical collaboration with Nintendo yet. Leveraging the console's upgraded GPU and improved processing capabilities, the game promises high-fidelity visuals and smooth performance even in handheld mode. Ubisoft has confirmed that the title will be released in digital and Game-Key Card physical formats, consistent with recent AAA releases on the platform. Players can look forward to touchscreen integration, allowing them to manage equipment, navigate maps, and interact with menus through intuitive touch controls. The Switch 2 version will feature cross-progression via Ubisoft Connect, meaning players can carry their saves and unlocks seamlessly between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

All major updates included and more on the way

When Assassin’s Creed Shadows arrives on Switch 2 this December, it will include all previously released free updates and patches, ensuring parity with other platforms from day one. Ubisoft also confirmed that the paid expansion Claws of Awaji will follow in early 2026, continuing the story of Naoe and Yasuke with new missions and regions.

To build momentum ahead of launch, Ubisoft detailed its fall update roadmap, featuring two significant updates that will arrive before December:

  • Title Update 10 (October 28, 2025) introduces the Advanced Parkour System, giving players greater agility and more freedom in traversal. The update also adds a new mode called "Corrupted Castles," where previously conquered strongholds become re-corrupted by Animus anomalies, offering fresh combat scenarios and rare loot.

  • Title Update 11 (November 25, 2025) will bring a free story chapter titled "A Puzzlement." This update embraces a lighter, more humorous tone and expands both protagonists' abilities. Naoe learns Yasuke's powerful war kick, while Yasuke gains access to stealth-based non-lethal takedowns. Environmental puzzles and new side activities will also play a larger role.

When it launches on December 2, 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not only expand the franchise's reach but also showcase the power and potential of the Nintendo Switch 2 as a new home for large-scale, cinematic gaming experiences.
