Assassin's Creed Shadows to receive crossover with Dead by Daylight

Ubisoft has revealed the identity of one of the partners set to impact the world of Assassin's Creed Shadows soon. On May 27, the title will receive a special mission bringing elements from the survival game Dead by Daylight into its story set in feudal Japan.

"Step into The Fog. A new Dead by Daylight quest begins. Slip through the shadows. Survive the ordeal," says the company's announcement on social media. Alongside the post, Ubisoft released a short teaser showing Naoe and Yasuke being watched by a samurai whose body is engulfed in flames. So far, Ubisoft hasn't explained how the collaboration will work within Assassin's Creed Shadows, but more details shouldn't take long to surface. Just like in previous games in the series, the Animus will likely be the narrative hook used to justify the crossover.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Crossover With Dead by Daylight

The partnership with Dead by Daylight will land on the same day that Assassin's Creed Shadows gets other major additions. On May 27, Ubisoft promises to enhance the game's Photo Mode and make several tweaks to how its parkour systems behave. In June of this year, the game will also get an additional free mission, a new difficulty setting, and the option to show helmets during cutscenes. Looking further ahead, the French developer is also planning to add a New Game+ mode and other special collaborations.

Developed by Behaviour Interactive, Dead by Daylight is a game released in 2016 that gained popularity thanks to its formula of pitting survivors against bizarre creatures from the world of horror. The title is still going strong today, largely thanks to the many partnerships it's managed to secure with famous franchises. Future Dead by Daylight collabs include Five Nights at Freddy's, which will introduce a playable version of Springtrap. In June, DBD will add cosmetics from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, featuring skins of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer, Ciri, Triss, and Eredin.

While Assassin's Creed Shadows was a sales hit, it didn't necessarily translate to an excellent year for Ubisoft. The French company has announced it will change its future release strategies, taking things slow to deliver more polished and refined games. Ubisoft said this approach benefited Assassin's Creed Shadows and plans to extend it to all major future releases.
