Obsidian has not forgotten Avowed

The world of video games moves forward very fast, and the huge number of exciting releases that take place every year makes it easy to shift attention from one to another very fast. However, keeping an eye on certain games and their post-launch content can yield very interesting results. A fine example of that is Avowed, an RPG released by Obsidian Entertainment last year that caught the eye of many players. An immersive story set in the universe of Pillars of Eternity, rewarding exploration, and thrilling combat mechanics made the game one of the most surprising releases of 2024. The developer studio promised to expand its world with novelties after the release, but we haven't heard much about Avowed for quite a few months. Now, Obsidian has released a new update for the game and a new roadmap full of enhancements.

Update 1.4 and beyond

A sizeable patch has been released recently for Avowed. Update 1.4 includes a wide range of quality of life enhancements, changes demanded by the community, a balance pass for many unique items, and a good number of bug fixes and optimizations. Also, the new arachnophobia mode can be toggled on via the accessibility menu, and it will delight those who can't stand creepy crawlers. Alongside the update release, Obsidian has revealed a new roadmap for Avowed that includes plenty of novelties to be added to the game throughout 2025. Next summer, the introduction of new active and passive skills alongside improvements to crafting, new weapons and armors, and the ability to add custom markers for the map will enhance the overall gameplay experience. A few months later, the game will receive the eagerly awaited new game plus mode, a photo mode, a new weapon type for players to discover, and more.

While there won't be significant additions in the way of new quests or story content, the novelties in the roadmap will contribute to making Avowed offer a more pleasant gameplay experience. We don't know yet if Obsidian is willing to expand the game further than that, but it's definitely not required. Avowed offers a standalone RPG experience that is quite fun, and it's worthy of a spot in any video game library.
