Avowed receives a huge patch

The game has just been released but Obsidian Entertainment has deployed an enormous patch for Avowed. Even though it didn't present serious problems at launch, the game has been updated with a significantly large patch that includes a plethora of improvements. Before logging into the game again, you will have to download and install 66 GB of files that also include gameplay optimizations and a couple of major bug fixes.

Improving the game even further

Obsidian Entertainment didn't have the patch ready for launch day. The early access phase, which allowed those who bought the most expensive editions of Avowed to play the game several days ahead of the launch date, has provided the studio with feedback about the game's performance. Therefore, the patch also includes several adjustments requested by the community, like enhancements to the game's UI and changes to make the equipment system more dynamic, changes to the progression system, and buffs for companions. Avowed has achieved decent figures at launch, with a peak number of 17,490 players on Steam that is quite likely to increase throughout the weekend. However, the game is also available via Game Pass so the total player count is probably much higher. In any case, not being available for PlayStation consoles is probably a limiting factor when it comes to the number of copies sold. In any case, Avowed does not feature any kind of cooperative multiplayer and it's purely a single-player adventure. Therefore, the total number of players in the game does not hinder your gameplay experience in any way. Also, if we take into account that completing the main storyline in the game would take from 20 to 25 hours, it's unlikely that you will see a massive number of players in the game in the coming days.

Leaving those figures aside, the real value of Avowed is that it offers a solid fantasy RPG experience set in the world of Pillars of Eternity. Exploring the world in the first-person view offers new possibilities to interact with it and lets you delve into a more dynamic and engaging combat system, which is one of the game's highlights.
