Team Cherry Announces Free Sea of Sorrow DLC for Silksong

We already knew that Team Cherry was working on new content for Hollow Knight: Silksong, but the studio has now announced a major free expansion titled Sea of Sorrow, scheduled to launch sometime in 2026. The reveal came through the studio’s end-of-year holiday blog update, where the developers reflected on Silksong’s progress and outlined plans for the future of the franchise.

According to Team Cherry, Sea of Sorrow will expand Hollow Knight: Silksong with a brand-new adventure centered on maritime themes. Players will guide Hornet through unfamiliar regions shaped by the sea, featuring fresh environments, new enemies and bosses, and additional tools and gameplay challenges. While specific mechanics and story details remain under wraps, the studio described the expansion as a substantial addition rather than a small content drop.

The developers confirmed that the expansion will be released free of charge for all owners of Hollow Knight: Silksong. No exact release date has been provided, but Team Cherry stated that development is already underway and more information will be shared as the 2026 launch window approaches.

The announcement further reinforces Team Cherry’s long-standing approach to post-launch support, following the original Hollow Knight, which received multiple free content updates after release. Silksong itself launched in 2025 to significant commercial and critical success, helping establish the sequel as one of the most anticipated and discussed indie titles of the decade.

In addition to the Sea of Sorrow reveal, Team Cherry reiterated that it is also working on an enhanced version of the original Hollow Knight for Nintendo Switch 2, featuring technical improvements inspired by Hollow Knight: Silksong. That update is likewise planned as a free upgrade for existing owners.
