Monster Hunter Wilds needs fixes
Monster Hunter Wilds promised to be a landmark title in Capcom's storied franchise. With a vibrant open world, refined combat, and a compelling narrative, it launched to critical acclaim, earning a 90 Metacritic score and over 10 million sales. However, just four months later, the game has plummeted to infamy, now ranked among 2025's worst-rated games due to persistent issues, particularly on PC, and a lackluster endgame.
At its core, Wilds delivered the series' signature addictive gameplay loop, with stunning visuals and innovative mechanics like dynamic ecosystems and new monsters. Critics hailed it as a potential Game of the Year contender, praising its accessibility and narrative depth. Yet, the PC version's poor optimization—plagued by crashes, stuttering, and frame rate drops—alienated players. Steam reviews, once glowing, now sit at ‘’Overwhelmingly Negative,’’ reflecting frustration over Capcom's failure to address performance issues.
Compounding this, players criticized the streamlined mechanics and lack of challenging endgame content compared to Monster Hunter World. The game's player count has collapsed from launch, falling behind the seven-year-old World. Fans also lamented the sparse monster roster and microtransactions, which felt like a step back from the series' legacy.
Polished features for better gameplay
The second major title update, set for late June 2025, is meant to salvage Wilds. It includes the return of fan-favorite monster Lagiacrus, new high-difficulty Arch-tempered monsters, layered weapons, and event quests. While these additions aim to address complaints about difficulty and content, the update lacks significant performance fixes, leaving PC players skeptical.
Monster Hunter Wilds could have been a genre-defining masterpiece, blending innovation with the franchise's core strengths. Unless Capcom prioritizes robust fixes, this ambitious title risks fading into obscurity, a cautionary tale of unmet potential.
