You play as a customizable character who is the grandchild of the legendary Rider, Red. One day, you encounter Ena, a Wyverian girl entrusted with the egg of a Rathalos. Ena explains that the Rathalos are disappearing all over the land and she needs your help to save them. Along with feline hero Navirou, you embark on a quest to discover answers to this mystery.
Along the way, you must find, hatch, and train creatures called Monsties to aid you on your travels. Once properly trained, they will fight alongside you in turn-based combat, following commands sent through your Kinship Stone. You may then gather materials from defeated monsters and bring them to the blacksmith to turn into weapons and armor.
In your journey, you will make new allies, fight relentless foes, and discover exotic locations as you work to find the missing Rathalos and unravel the mystery of the Wings of Ruin.
